Airwolf RC Helicopter Brings Back the 1980s Memories

Airwolf RC Helicopter Brings Back the 1980s Memories

Rc Helicopter

The 1980s gave us so many memories: shoulder pads, miniskirts, Iran-Iraq war, John Lennon's assassination, Nintendo, MTV (remember "Video Killed the Radio Star"?), Pac-Man, and TV series like 21 Jump Street and Airwolf. These are only some of the many things that remind us of this particular decade. Airwolf was one of the most watched American television series during the 80s. The show focuses on a state of the art military helicopter code named Airwolf, and it ran for four seasons, from 1984 to 1987. For those who are old enough to remember this TV series will never forget the coolness of the helicopter. Airwolf was actually a Bell 222, which is a twin-engined light helicopter manufactured by Bell Helicopter.

Although it has been more than 30 years since Airwolf debuted, the show still has some loyal, hard core fans. Fans can relive the heyday of this once popular television series with the Airwolf radio controlled (RC) helicopter. The Airwolf RC helicopter is the miniaturized replica of the Bell 222 helicopter. It is the perfect toy for loyal fans of the TV show as well as RC airplanes enthusiasts. Today, many toy manufacturers have come up with their own version of the RC helicopter.

If you are a big fan of the series, you can consider getting the 4 channel super size Airwolf RC helicopter by Lie Bao. Measuring at 60 cm (more than 23 inches), it is bigger than the average RC helicopters out there. It features a flight stabilizing system which enables the helicopter to maintain a stable hover, dual propeller system with revolutionary co-axial rotor technology, and 4 channel FM transmitter. It comes equipped with a lithium polymer 7.4V 1,400 mAh battery. The size is L60 x W18 x H25 cm (L23 x W7 x H10 inches) and the weight is 615 gr (22 ounces).

You might also be interested in the Walkera 2.4Ghz Airwolf 5#4Q3. It is essentially a scaled down version of the Bell 222 helicopter used in the TV series. It also includes similar features as the Lie Bao Airwolf RC copter such as 4 channel FM transmitter and co-axial twin rotor blades system. The Walkera Airwolf is easy to fly for beginners and equipped with a tricycle undercarriage with retractable wheel for taking off and landing. The 2.4 Gigahertz radio system uses less current than standard frequency radio systems, resulting in longer battery life and flight time.

Selection of a Scale RC Helicopter

Selection of a Scale RC Helicopter

Rc Helicopter

Remote control helicopters are designed to perform and look a lot like a real helicopter. RC helicopters are not the same as RC airplanes and vary in many ways. RC helicopters come in many different sizes, colors, speeds, and prices. They also vary mechanically from one to another.

A scale RC helicopter can be bought in two different ways. They can be purchased assembled and ready to use or unassembled. The unassembled helicopters are favored by novice users and collectors of scale RC helicopters.

RC helicopters vary in size and can be either very small or very large. Smaller remote control helicopters are good for beginners and are usually what is found in toy stores. Smaller RC helicopters are easier to fly and generally cheaper than larger ones. The smaller the helicopter the easier to repair and the less expensive the replacement parts are. As price increases the quality of the product increases and the more similar it becomes to a real helicopter not only in appearance but by performance as well. Another factor affecting price is the size. The larger the helicopter is the more expensive it is, the more power it has, and more experience is needed to maneuver it.

There are two different ways that a RC helicopter can be powered. These two are either by electricity or by gas. Electric powered helicopters tend to be less expensive and easier to work. Gas powered RC helicopters are more similar to a real helicopter but are more difficult to repair and maintain.

Learning how to use a scale RC helicopter requires more skill then flying an RC airplane. RC air planes do not require the same maneuvering techniques because they do not have the same range of abilities of a RC helicopter. Controlling an RC helicopter requires several different activities that differ from controlling a RC airplane.

Avid collectors of RC helicopters generally look for helicopters that operate and look like a real ones. The more hobby-grade the helicopter is the higher the cost more and the more capabilities it has. They can reach speeds as fast as 80mph and can go as high as 12000 feet.

RC Flight Simulators

RC Flight Simulators

Rc Helicopter

If there is an area where RC has advanced dramatically, it is in simulators. RC flight simulators used to be cheesy, but now are outstanding.

A Remote Control flight simulator is a computer software program in a video game format that allows you to replicate the feeling of flying an actual RC model airplane on your PC. The idea of flight simulation computer games was developed with some of the earliest gaming computers. The early flight simulators were not useful for RC training because the programs and graphics were still rather primitive.

The recent increased capacity for gaming and graphic reproductions as well as the more wide spread availability of Personal computers has led to a surge in the production and sales of flight simulator programs designed to simulate remote controlled flight. The best programs use a transmitter that is the same as the one used in actual flight situations. The transmitter is connected to the computer via a USB cable. Signals from the transmitter operate the simulated plane in the gaming display on the monitor exactly as a RC model would respond in actual flight.

The training possibilities are what make the flight simulator much more than just another computer game. The ability to simulate the exact conditions and feel of a real RC model plane allows a person to perfect his flying skills on the simulator without risk to his expensive actual RC model. The simple basic landing and takeoffs can be practiced until they can be done perfectly. The more advanced maneuvers can be practiced again and again until perfection is achieved. Then you are ready to try them out with a real plane.

Some of the better simulator programs include the Great Planes Realflight G3.5. It is considered by many to be the best software available. The G3.5 has several expansion modules that can be used with the basic program. This gives a person a wide choice of airplane types and graphic backgrounds. The Aerofly Pro Deluxe RC Flight simulator is another highly rated choice. It is possible to adapt your own transmitter for use with the software which gives an exact reproduction of the feel of the controls.

A third highly rated software program is the Reflex XTR. One of the features of these high quality flight simulators is the ability to reproduce not only various flying environments, but also weather and visibility conditions. Some can reproduce night flying or simulate out of sight control of the aircraft when it flies behind an object and out of line of sight. Most Hobby Shops that sell RC vehicles will carry the RC flight simulators or have information on how to obtain them. As the motto of one highly rated flight simulator promises, first they will teach you how to fly an RC model plane and then they will make you an expert.

RC RTF Helicopters - But Are They Really Ready To Fly?

RC RTF Helicopters - But Are They Really Ready To Fly?

Rc Helicopter

RC RTF Helicopters have enjoyed a huge surge in popularity due to the fantastic advancements in technology. The new advancements have improved to the point of not only made them very easy to fly. But increased the quality and lowered prices. This makes them very easy for the beginner to enter the wonderful world of RC Helicopters.

A new buzz word in the RC Helicopter industry is "ready-to-fly" right out of the box. So is this really a true statement? The last buzz word was "almost-ready-to-fly" which meant there's some assembly required and maybe more parts were needed before you could actually fly it. But RTF means just that open the box and go fly. For all practical purposes the statement is true in most cases.

Sometimes the batteries are not included for the transmitters. But they will state that transmitter batteries and not included. The reason is the batteries are over the counter type and many times you will have them on hand. The battery for the Helicopter is always included because it is not a standard size and weight. More often than not spare parts are also included. Sometimes the rotor blades get broken so they include a spare set.

Many new ready-to-fly models today come assembled and adjusted so the novice can be flying like a pro. The prices will make it a hobby everyone can afford. As the price goes higher and the Helicopters get larger and more complicated the set-ups require some fine tuning and adjustment before flight can take place. Helicopters with 4 to 8 channels are going to require some fine tuning and adjustments on all models before you fly. Pre-flight checks can be more complicated than the real thing.

If you are a beginner always read the reviews and the information provided on the models you buy. The beginner will have much more fun when he can be successful flying right out of the box. Models up to 4 channels are built with the beginner in mind and more often than not will fit the requirements of the beginners. Models with 4 channels and up get more complicated and require more experience and practice before you can successfully fly.

The easiest to fly models that come in many sizes and price ranges are coaxial helicopters. They have two rotor blades that counter rotate for balance and stability. More often than not they are controlled by 2 to 3.5 channels of remote control. Their flight is very stable and will fly right out of the box with no adjustments. Most have trim adjustments that may need to be adjusted to stop spin left or right. But, the adjustments are very simple and once set stays set.

Ready to fly models are available for indoor flight and do not fall apart when they hit the chair or wall. They are very durable which is not to say you can't break one. But you are very likely to crash it many times before something breaks.

Flight simulators are available that allow you to connect your transmitter to a PC to control the simulator. Many people have used simulators to learn to fly RC Helicopters. It is very easy to develop bad habits that are hard to overcome when moving from the simulator to the RC model. Models up to 4 channels can be flown with a little practice with the model. The simulator does come in handy with 4 or more channels. Models that use collective pitch do have a learning curve to get through before successful flight can take place.

Indoor Helicopter - Play Safe for Maximum Fun!

Indoor Helicopter - Play Safe for Maximum Fun!

Rc Helicopter

Toy helicopters are excellent for children and adults alike, as they offer a lot of excitement and fun. Every toy shop is bound to have some sort of a remote controlled chopper that is a great gift during holidays and festivals.

Most people, when they think of RC choppers, think of the sophisticated, outdoor flying helicopters. Large toy helicopters offer exhilarating experiences to those intermediate and expert pilots who can fly them with practiced skill through the skies, and maneuvering around trees and people. The technology in large RC choppers is advanced, making them very expensive. The cost of maintenance and repair is also high.

Helicopters are bound to crash in the first few flights, and until you learn how to fly proper. Beginners should normally choose the less expensive helicopters to begin flying. Indoor Helicopters, which are cheaper than their outdoor counterparts, are perfect for new pilots to learn flying skills. Besides, small indoor choppers are more durable than the larger, advanced copters, and can withstand frequent knocks against walls.

To begin flying one, you will need to first place them on a flat surface and gradually lift them off the ground by pushing the throttle. Control is tricky and not easy to fly around and your maiden flight is bound to crash. However, with regular practice, flying becomes a lot easier, especially if you have a toy chopper with two levers, one for lifting and one for thrusting. These helicopters are also simple to navigate through the air.

There are many types of RC choppers available in the market. Some cheap versions do not have very long battery lives and re-charging is required every 7 to 8 flights. Others, of better quality, last longer. There are also helicopters that are designed for special aerobatics and they come in varied colors. Some older and cheaper versions are able to pick only one radio signal while the newer and expensive ones will pick a number of radio frequencies.

While they alone can withstand damage after several crash landings, Indoor Helicopters can damage the walls and windows of the house. Because they are flown inside a room, collisions with walls and windows during flight can cause the paint to chip or glass panes to break, respectively. Some safety features, like the helicopter material, are vital before buying an indoor chopper.

Outdoor versions are usually made of hard materials. If you are flying a mini outdoor chopper inside, take care not to fly the helicopter inside a room with expensive glassware or pottery showpieces. Fly away from the walls, as far as you can, and pull the drapes to cover glass windows. Do not fly near a power cable as fuel spilled from a copter crash can create a short circuit.

Indoor Helicopters made of foam or soft rubbery material cause less damage to furniture, windows, and individual decoration items around the room. Note however, that damage is avoidable. Indoor choppers are still capable of knocking things over and damaging breakable things around the room. Using an outdoor helicopter and flying it outdoors is certainly safer and a lot more fun in this context.

RC Helicopter Simulator

RC Helicopter Simulator

Rc Helicopter

RC helicopter fans enjoy their hobby for the ability to take control of their favorite helicopters. In practicality, it can be difficult to find the time, space and money to fly a range of different RC helicopters, and for the true enthusiast, experiencing a diversity of models gives the best chance not only to learn the craft, but also to try your hand at models that would otherwise be out of reach. The solution? An RC helicopter simulator. These simulators are a great, low-cost way of experiencing the full scope of what different RC models have to offer, all from the comfort of your own home.

So if you're thinking about getting your hands on a helicopter, you should probably think about investing in an RC helicopter simulator, and there are a number of reasons as to why this might provide you with a more suitable and enjoyable flying experience.

Learn The Ropes

The first, and perhaps most obvious reason as to why you would want to get your hands on an RC helicopter simulator is to learn the ropes, and help you learn how to handle a helicopter before you come to fly one for real. For the novice flier, flying can quickly become a costly business, and crashing from a height is likely to do damage to even the most hardy of helicopters over time. An RC helicopter simulator is a great way of avoiding these problems from the outset, and giving yourself the chance to become more familiar with the mechanics and controls before launching into your first real flight.

Try A Variety of Models

When it comes to real life flying, we don't all have unlimited budgets to blow on helicopters. At the same time, you may very well want to experience different models and makes, and there are very few opportunities to experience this diverse range of helicopters. That's where an RC helicopter simulator comes into play. A simulator can, for a fraction of the cost, open the door to experiencing a wide range of different helicopters, without the need to leave home or borrow a friend's copter. That means you can get the most rounded experience from a full range of helicopters across multiple different terrains and landscapes, all for a miniscule up-front investment.

Decide What To Buy

An RC helicopter simulator is not just valuable as a learning tool, and of course trying a range of models is part and parcel of what its all about. When it comes down to deciding which model to actually buy for yourself, a simulator can be highly effective as a shopping aid. It might sound silly, but the advancements in RC simulator technologies mean that they now give a much more accurate reflection of real-life flying experiences, so you can better get to grips with the type of model that fits your needs. When it comes down to deciding which helicopter is best for you, trying them out over a range of different terrains, landscapes and models can give you a much greater insight into the right kind of model for you.

RC helicopter simulator packages are not only great fun, but also highly practical and useful for those that share a passion for helicopters. Whether its as a buying aid, a training aid, experimentation or just for the plain old fun of it, RC helicopter simulators are a great way to test out in the virtual world what you can't achieve in the real world for the purposes of the practical.

Radio Controlled Helicopters For Beginners - Indoor RC Helicopter Hazards

Radio Controlled Helicopters For Beginners - Indoor RC Helicopter Hazards

Rc Helicopter

When you start your beginner RC helicopter training, there are a number of things you need to keep in mind. Radio controlled helicopters for beginners are generally easier to master than the more advanced models, but quite a few things can go wrong when you do your first indoor training flights.

A mostly indoor RC helicopter such as the Nine Eagles Swordfish is a very stable coaxial machine, and a good introduction to the hobby, but you still need to look out for the following potential problems:

1. The Wall Effect

Indoor helicopter flying has its hazards, and one of the first you will experience in a confined space such as your living room is air turbulence. Even relatively small RC helicopters can create a lot of turbulence from the dual main rotors. Air is pushed down, and then out to the sides, and from there on towards the nearest wall or furniture, from where it will bounce back again in various directions.

If you take off cautiously into a low level tail-in hover, by the time you have just stabilized the aircraft and feeling good about your achievement, the first "side-wash" will probably hit the heli and try to force it to the side. The biggest effect will be felt in the tail which will start turning away from the air pressure, and if you don't correct it in time, you can easily become disorientated when you finally start reacting, as the heli could now be facing you from the side.

Luckily the excellent yaw (sideways movement) dampening gyros even in most radio controlled helicopters for beginners should counter and retard this rotation of the tail so that you will soon learn to correct it in time.

2. The Space Race

This problem may seem self-evident, but it is worth mentioning how it can affect your first indoor training sessions. The fact that I was learning within a very small family room to take off, hover and get comfortable with the cyclic controls for basic forwards, backwards and sideways movement, made me cautious right from the start, as I knew there was very "little room" for error!

It so happens that I had no real crashes during that time, just a few more or less uncontrolled landings, and the rotors brushed various pieces of furniture in the process, but always after I had already cut power.

Soon I was filling the whole cubic area of that room, refining my control of my Nine Eagles Swordfish, all the while careful and wary of sudden side, down or up-washes of turbulent air trying to destroy my safety record!

Then, very cautiously, I started practising side-on hovers. The confined space was now becoming even more of a challenge, as I soon found these hovers, and the disorientation one tries to overcome, were stacking the odds against me. However I pushed on and eventually got comfortable enough to very, very carefully try out some nose-in hovers (the controls by now the opposite from where I started, and often, dangerously, giving "pause to though").

After a few such hovers, just as I felt I was beginning to get instinctive control over the heli, I made one of those "little" over-corrections, now in a nose-in hover, and this time I wasn't so lucky. No major crash resulted, but the rotor clipped a chair on the far side of the room when I slipped the craft too far back, and I had to settle for my first repair (replacing the affected blade with the spare that came in the box).

At that point I decided to find a sports hall, or wait for calm days to continue practising - no more indoors at home for me. The bottom line: for simple basic training, where disorientation isn't yet such a big problem (tail-in maneuvers) a confined space is acceptable, but for further training it just isn't worth the risk.

3. Safe as Houses?

Lastly on a point of safety: If you do your basic training indoors at home, often with other family members or visitors nearby, keep in mind that these spinning rotors are actually quite dangerous. The blade tips move at great speeds, and at the same time you are still learning to control where that lethal blade goes! Little kids may get over-excited by your amazing flying feats and inadvertently run across the path of your indoor RC helicopter!

Apache Helicopter

Apache Helicopter

Rc Helicopter

The Apache Helicopter is the most marvelous flying machine to have graced the skies. It is unparalleled in both offensive and defensive capabilities and armed with mobility that makes it the ace of the skies. It was created to empower the US Army in times when the need for military power arises. It is the first to stray away from traditional helicopters which focused more on mobility. It was the first to pack so much fire power that it was often called the flying tank. Its armaments could pierce through almost any armor and were very lethal to ground units. It also possesses the sturdiness of a tank making bringing it down a very difficult task. It was a flying machine capable of immense destruction.

The Apache Helicopter carries the name of the fiercest and most skillful Native American tribe in the history of the United Sates. The name was perfect for until today the monstrous aircraft is still considered as the most powerful and devastating copter the world has ever seen. Offense is the greatest asset of this airborne monster. It greatly excels on both annihilating hostile units on the ground and completing seek-and-destroy missions targeting other aircrafts. It has a cockpit located in the front part to hold the gunner, enabling it to aim easily and accurately for any target. The pilot on the other had operates on a separate cockpit located behind that of the gunner.

The defensive capabilities of the Apache Helicopter are also unmatched. The gunner can easily transfer to the rear cockpit in case the pilot gets incapacitated and the pilot on the other hand can put the machine on auto pilot and transfer to the front cockpit to take charge of gunning the enemies. The revolutionary flying device also utilizes two strong engines with each engine capable of supporting the machine alone. The entire copter is also armor plated to stay robust against all forms of gunfire.

Mobility is another edge of the Apache Helicopter. It is equipped with very advance sensors that can scope out any nearby enemies even those that can remain invisible from sight and normal radar. It can also remain fully functional even in the harshest of conditions such as sandstorms and strong typhoons. Its system is equipped with advanced computer technology that allows it to excel even in most dire situations. Research and development is still going on to ensure that this aerial ace will continue to dominate and protect the skies of the country they serve.

RC Airplane Beginner's Guide

RC Airplane Beginner's Guide

Rc Helicopter

The world of RC Airplanes use to be out of reach for the Average person. They would have to go and get plans balsa wood glue and spend a good few months or years building a model. All the models had engines which meant messing with fuel and oil which made flight preparation time consuming and messy.

Now days thanks to miracle of Epp foam and modern battery technology you can be up and flying in minutes (well after a bit of practice ). Electric RC Airplane models have made it a lot easier to get into the air now due to their small sizes and the convenience of just charge and fly. Assembly is lot quicker in most case you just have to screw on the wings attach your battery and you are in the air. Some of the terms that are used if your are buying a model is RTF (ready to fly) or ARTF (almost ready to fly ).

To be honest I got some RTF models that were not RTF but if you buy them from reputable shops in most cases you dont go too far wrong. Best models for beginners are 2 or 3 channel which means on 2 channel you have throttle and rudder and depend on the lift of the main wing to increase height or decrease height by controlling the speed. 3 channel is the same as the above but you have an elevator control as well.

Don't be tempted to go out a buy the best looking model out there. The best RC airplane model to start of on should have a high wing and not be too fast or you could end up bringing home a bag of spare parts. Most of the electric foam type RC Airplanes can be repaired with tape and glue which makes them ideal to learn on. Another thing you can do is buy an RC Airplane simulator for your computer which lets you plug in a controller and simulate real RC model flight. This is an excellent way to learn and will save you a lot of heart ache in the end.

My first electric model that I assembled was a gws tiger moth - this was a 3 channel light weight and a slow flyer. The parts you needed for that were A battery pack, 2 servos, a speed controller a micro receiver and a radio.

This cost about 160 dollars but now you can get a model ready to fly for nearly half that.

So try out this rewarding hobby because you will be hooked.

Your Guide To Gas Powered Model Helicopters

Your Guide To Gas Powered Model Helicopters

Rc Helicopter

Gas powered model helicopters are some of the most loved and flown models planes today. Both novices and experts love them to fly. But, these gas powered model helicopters are different from other helicopters and planes in many ways. In the first place, these helicopters are costlier than all the other model planes and helicopters. Then, you need some expertise and skill to assemble them, since they are involved with more bolts, bearings, metal and plastic, unlike the PVA and balsa wood used in other planes. But, this can be fun, especially if you would like to see your dream chopper come to life from the scratch. The other good thing about these gas helicopters is that they can make more and daring maneuvers, contributing with amazing aerobics. And with these qualities, they only prove that it is not easy to control them, especially if you are a beginner.

If you are thinking of flying a multi-channel gas powered RC helicopter, you are advised first to learn, how to fly with simpler controls planes. Multi-channel gas powered RC helicopters are difficult to control, since they can take hard dives and unplanned turns, if you are flying them in a windy weather. So, before you make an entry into the world of tougher gas RC helicopters, I suggest that you try Thunder Tiger Raptor V2. This helicopter is very popular among learners and experts alike. It can well fit as a good model to learn with and a worthy one to prepare you for more advanced models. Another good model you can use is JR Venture, which is an ARF helicopter, where the radio system and engine need to be assembled.

When you feel, it is time to go for more advanced models of gas powered RC helicopters, think of doing some serious shopping to get what will suit you. You can get advice from experienced model helicopter pilots, before you spend a lot of money. Waste no money on unnecessary parts that are not required. You should also know that flying or even learning how to fly these helicopters is not easy and needs a lot of concentration. It is highly recommended that you get a good instructor to guide you, but if you have exceptional talent and skill, you can learn on your own. It is again strongly recommended that you start learning with an RC flight stimulator that will give you an almost realistic experience, at a low cost and avoid the risk of crashing your expensive helicopter.

Gas RC helicopters have a more complicated radio gear that is not the same as that of normal model planes. The radio gear is normally a 4 or 6 channels system and comes at a high cost. However, if you really don't need such expensive gear, you can settle for a basic one like JR 6102 heli set, which is especially good for beginners.

Lastly, it is advisable to read as much literature as you can regard gas powered RC model helicopters. You should also visit websites, where you can read more about them. It's a sure way to learn fast and be safe.

All the above is a guide to gas powered model helicopters for you to learn flying and experience the thrills of flying your favorite helicopter.
